Door Provinciale Staten van Drenthe op 2 juli 2014 vastgestelde versie van Hondsrug.De provincie Drenthe heeft als ambitie het behouden van de karakteristiek van het esdorpenlandschap. Dit uit zich in een zichtbare ruimtelijke samenhang tussen esdorp en es, waarbij de esdorpen en essen als een keten op de Hondsrug liggen, afgewisseld met scherp begrensde boswachterijen. Komt voor in kaart 4: Robuust sociaal-economisch systeem.
