Earthquakes - images of scanned analog seismograms from stations in the Netherlands
This dataset contains images of scanned analog seismograms for historical earthquakes. They belong to the old instrumentation of the following KNMI seismic stations in the Netherlands: De Bilt (DBN), Epen (ENN), Heerlen (HEE), Ravensbos (RSB), Witteveen (WIT) and Winterswijk (WTS). The different parts of the name of the images correspond to: station code, channel code, instrument code, time of the first minute of the seismogram, time of the end of the seismogram (approximate) and version number. The complete description of the stations, their instrumentation and the channel codes can be found in the following report: http://bibliotheek.knmi.nl/knmipubTR/TR245.pdf

SISMOS is fully involved in the EuroSeismos project for all the high resolution scanning operations. Within the scope of this project, from 2003 to 2007 SISMOS scanned over 30,000 historical recordings registered by the observatories of 29 Euro-Mediterranean countries. The list of countries that are party to the project can be found in the EuroSeismos site. The systematic approach to research, recovery, restoration, cataloguing, reproduction, dissemination and study of the instrumental and documentary historical assets of Italian and Euro-Mediterranean seismology makes available a huge quantity of data and experiences usable by numerous and diverse disciplinary fields.

The data contained in this volume was scanned by the SISMOS Group of INGV as part of the EuroSeismos Project of the European Seismological Commission. The seismograms were scanned initially at high resolution (1016 dpi) using the Eskoscan 2636 professional scanners producing TIFF raster images. The images were then resampled at 600 dpi and converted in JPEG images. Additional information about the scanning can be found on the SISMOS web site ( http://sismos.ingv.it). Note that the time corrections are not provided.
